UNESCO
reports, that as of 2011, 57 million children of primary school age and
another 69 million children of lower secondary school age were still
out of school worldwide.
Nine out of these 10 million children come from the North, the Supervising Minister of Education Nyesom Wike has said during a working visit to Akwa Ibom State.
This unfortunate situation is in the midst of obscene national luxury in which up to 200 individuals are said to own private jets, and cars valued at about N38 million can be found on Nigerian road while some citizens can afford to buy a bottle champagne for N200,000 in a nightclub in Abuja. These pictures taken within the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and Katsina State, during school hours (between 10am-12pm) at different days reflect the sad situation of children who were busy hawking on streets and in the market or going around while their more privileged colleagues are busy in school.
