The Abia State Police Command has discovered another baby
factory at Umuabuwa village in Osisioma Local Government Area of the
state and consequently arrested its operator.
The
Imo State Police Command rescued pregnant girls aged 16 and above from an
illegal orphanage that operated in the guise of an NGO, November 2013
The baby factory popularly known as “Osu Abuwa” was allegedly run by Mrs. Comfort Osu Abu.
Mrs.
Abu, was using her home to harbor pregnant teenagers and women whose
children she sold to prospective buyers without following the due
process of child adoption as stipulated by law, was said to have been in
the illegal child trafficking business for many years.
The police
also arrested a couple, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Blessing Iheanacho, for
allegedly conspiring to harbor a pregnant lady, Chidinma Okeke, at the
home with the intent of adopting her baby on delivery.
The couple,
said to have been childless after 18 years of marriage, were reported
to have contracted Chidinma to be pregnant and kept her at Comfort’s
home hoping to adopt her baby when she put to bed before police swoop on
the baby factory and arrested them.
While it was equally gathered
that a pregnant girl, Miss Ozuchi Chinasa, who was also harboured at
the home, was rescued during the raid, reports claimed that Chidinma had
been delivered of a baby boy in an undisclosed hospital in Aba.
